Some lighter entries from the 21st century

This is a handful of my favourite 21st-century entries that I'd done, after my main Collection!!

Drifting By (with prologue)

There's probably not a lot to say about the 21st century prologue to this song (which I think was done in 2022), but as for the main song itself, this is the fast Year 7 version of Drifting By, as opposed to the slow Year 8 one (which is '2nd Try at Drifting By', on Arko's High School Music Highlights)... this song occurred to me once when I was sleeping over at my Dad's house... I suddenly had all these triplets enter my head, and that's how this song was born!

Lyrics:

Slipping from sight

Yesterday’s lost dream

Window fogs up

Parted for good

Relic from years ago

Gathered dust

Hollowness of years gone

See me play the fool

Face harsh light of day

Were that that dream true

Being made a mockery of

Joke’s on me

Vantage of the other side

Rather not have had

Only two who’d been there

Known to nought else

Time had slipped unnoticed

Windfalls never seen

Oh just one more time

Just wanna go back

Future comes into view

But what could portend

What had I to show

Maybe I’d never know?

I see my life

Staring through the window

I ask myself

Why is this so?

Those people place

All their blame on me

And so I say to them

Why don't you just let me be

Why, why have they control over me?

I feel cut from life’s reality

Why, why can’t I just break free?

The world seems to be ignoring me

The world is fad-

ing so fast I can’t see

I ask myself

How could this be?

Oh I see you

All so clearly

So I ask myself

Why can’t you see me?

Why, why must I do their decree?

I feel cut from life’s reality

Why, why are they authority?

The world seems to be ignoring me

"No End of Sorrows"

The verse music of this was done in 2024, but I think I did this because I wanted to do better justice to the Year 8 fragment that this is based on (the chorus music), than the original Bittersweet Times that's on my main Collection... (I felt that that, whilst a good song, didn't really do good justice to the Year 8 music)... however, I like the overall feel of this one, and feel it's quite successful!

Lyrics:

Things aren’t quite what they seem

Layers kept underneath

Ain’t done till it’s done

That’s what the man says

Murky shrouded future

Paradise that awaits

All knowing your pain

In some far gone way

What I’d give, just one more

Oh that we were there

Please don’t ever mind me

Want the best, can’t you see?

A life of slow salvation is here, but the time now feels oh so near

Trinkets strewn away, as I’ll never let it part every day

Lost without purpose

Into vice of madness

With mirth someone laughs

Draws you into his lair

Gripped with pain from all sides

In a way just his own

Wipe that tear from your eyes

Chin up, that’s the way

Almost there, hold on

Gotta be where it’s at

Nothing seeming so sure?

So much better before

And things stretch on for yet so far, as I live bereft of my northern star

Will you wish me well, as I harbour things I just can’t tell

"Daybreak (alternate version)"

Again, there's probably not too much to say about the new parts (verses) of this one (which I think were done in 2023)... as for the choruses, it of course was something that popped into my head probably around September 1997!

Lyrics:

Whispering voices

Speak as in a dream

Tell of times lost and gone

Erased from sight

Things I thought not possible

Glad to be wrong

So lost to those old dreams

Silent flicker

Gleaned from that instant

Sifting for gold

Should I see it through

Or just let it lie

Things aren’t served on plates

Not way of real men

Things which shouldn’t be in doubt

Should well know by now

Thought for what might have been

What has been lost

Not a quitter

Try to stick it out

Spare a thought for me

For another day

Lie in the moonlight

Wait for the rising sun

Play your cards right

Off and your work is done

Cos I’m here and I’m watching you

Lost in a far-off world

No form of respite

Things that seem magic

So much sleight of hand

Murky undercurrents

Caught in rip-tide

Echoes in back of mind

That distinctive voice

He sold his soul for us

To the last drop

Me, battle-tested?

I wouldn’t have known

Loner doesn’t find the nerve

Keeps to back

Take your mind for a spin

Feeling that hum

Countless ones giving their all

Can’t say what went in

Wherever you try to search

You’ll search ever-more

All that’s old is new again

Heard that tale before?

Something remembered

Sly smile and knowing wink

Hear the past’s echo

Prob’ly not what you think

Cos I’m here and I’m watching you

Fall From Grace (alternate version)

This song uses the same 1997 fragment found in the "Fall From Grace" on my main collection, but I think in this I wanted to do slightly better justice to the original fragment... verses I think also done in 2023!

Lyrics:

Wan’dring with no recourse

In mind’s chilly blade

What e’er can be done

For those who have left

Seems to be scant left

All now is lost

Too much to try

Effort feels futile

Is time worth the while?

Ghosts linger still

Via prism of past

Secrets long stashed away

Life and love on the line

Soul bared for all

The higher they rise

Harder they’ll fall

Worlds collapsing, falling in, can’t know if I’ll sink or swim

Depth no limit to going low, but I don’t think I’ve been this far in

With the world’s weight

Carry that load

Plays out before eyes

All the world’s passing whims

Yours if you’ll have it

Awed by pie in the sky

Dreams so much pixie-dust

Broken promises, dreams

Hard times know no end

From cradle to grave

Far away long ago

Lay my soul at rest

No repent for those damned

That they may still see light

As with when we’d begun

Nothing lost nothing won

And the falling knows no end, no sign of ones loved or those who'd not come back

Silently pray for deli’vrnce, as God’s wrath sends me to journey’s end
